Over the past decade Deborah Richardson has designed training courses for small business owners that are self-paced, one to one and customized for optimum results. Government backed programs such as the Chamber Learning Network, BC Job Grant, CTG and Langara College Continuing Education have supported her programming with grants for small business owners. Deborah also collaborates with Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, Futurpreneur and Women’s Enterprise Center.

More than ever before we have to adapt to a changing world. Knowing what moves to take, what changes to make and how to keep focused is critical. 

Strategic Thinking and Strategic Planning skills are the backbones of continued business success. Learning how to create quarterly strategy plans is crucial in today’s business environment.

We will cover the basic elements of strategic thinking, strategy canvas, and various ways of creating a strategic plan. Participants will learn critical thinking skills, principles of a strategic plan, how to access risk and implement change, and the importance of engaging your team in the strategy.

This Business Development Training is self-paced, online or in-person  – 20 hours of one to one training and 8 hours of self-directed training

BUILDING SALES SKILLS AND SALES STRATEGY

This program is designed to help Small Business Owners improve their sales skills and learn how to create a Sales Strategy Plan. 

Many small business owners have little or no formal experience or training in sales generation. They may however have a solid marketing plan but they still struggle with sales generation, communication with key accounts, and following up on sales leads. 

Sales are the engine that drives the business. This course focuses on exploring various sales skills and sales strategies. Participants will learn the key elements of a sales strategy plan and how to use a sales strategy canvas and other sales generation tools and apps. Participants will learn key presentation and negotiation skills while having a learning platform to practice their pitch.

BUSINESS PLANNING FOR A SECOND WAVE

A business plan is a business owner’s road map to success. It is an essential planning tool that is used as a compass throughout a business’s life-cycle. Knowing how to use your business plan is key to planning growth and pivoting when needed.

We will review several business plan models (traditional business plan for banking purposes, business plan canvas, pitch deck, and the 3-page business plan) so the entrepreneur can choose which style is most appropriate for their management style. 

Participants will learn how to use their business plan as a tool for growth and strategy design. The process can reveal potential challenges and address risk management. The ritual of using a business plan as a tool to foresee needed change and to plan for growth is part of the process of ensuring there is a clear plan of action for the business. The planning process reveals challenges and potential roadblocks and ensures that potential risks are addressed. 

This course is specific to business reinvention. ( we call this the second wave, whether that be post-covid, or a change in direction of the business, or substantial growth that requires a business plan to work through complex goals.

MARKETING STRATEGY FOR INDEPENDANT CONTRACTORS

This program is designed for Independent Professionals, Consultants, and Coaches who want to learn marketing tools and strategies for promoting the sale of workshops, seminars, and consulting services.

Through a series of one-to-one training sessions, participants will learn to identify and develop effective marketing strategies specific to services. The marketing process for these types of businesses relies on a different set of tools and different strategies than a brick-and-mortar store or e-commerce methods that market products. 

This training provides an overview of various tools, how-to’s, and marketing strategies that will attract the participants’ ideal clients and get them to purchase their offerings. In addition, we will review both passive and active marketing, creating a marketing campaign and details on various applicable social media platforms. The training curriculum is designed specifically for independent contractors, consultants, and coaches, and anyone wanting to promote and seminars, speaking engagements, and workshops.
